Berlin’s street art is endlessly interesting; beyond the amateur tags there are plenty of picture-worthy finds. With only a short number of days on our trip the best way to track the best of these down we found was to take an ‘Alternative’ tour of the city.
Our guide Amy, a fellow English girl, had a
clear passion for art and explained how the history of Berlin has impacted on
its fascinating street art and culture. She explained that when the Berlin wall
was demolished many of the creative in East Berlin – who’s creativity grew in
their freedom of speech, finally were free to spread out into West Berlin.
These people adopted the abandoned buildings across the city creating squats
such as Tacheles (which I will blog about separately later!).
With this, street art also spread to the
West and despite laws in attempt to prevent it, new pieces are still arriving
and artists growing in status.
During the tour (and through endless
hunting throughout the trip), we spotted a range of postering and paint
artworks across the city, and tried to capture as many as possible!
